My second time on SQ J in this aircraft and I still love very much the color tone of the cabin, because purple! The only part I was not looking forward to was the uncertainty about getting enough rest on this redeye as I didn’t feel rested on my first experience. Really not sure if it’s the cabin specific thingy (its weird, I know) but let’s see.

  • Flight Timing – depart SIN 23:45 Arrive LHR 05:55
  • Flight Time – 14hours 10mins
  • Class of Travel – Business
  • Seat – 17A
  • Plane type – Airbus A380-800
  • No. of miles required – 92,000 Krisflyer miles (Saver, pre-devaluation)

Seat

17A was just the perfect spot to where I usually like to sit on an airplane even in economy – not near to the lavatories and direct aisle access. Boarding was rather orderly and I found my seat fairly quickly. The pics probably look a little similar to my recent review on my NYC-FRA flight but here goes anyway.

I loved that the shell gives so much privacy! As always, plenty of legspace for the 1.6m me, with the blanket, bed cover, and pillow nestled in the corner on arrival. Beside this space is a spot where all your in-flight literature is including the menu, as well as your headphones and water.

On the left of the seat are your seat functionalities including a reading light, a mirror, charging ports, wired hand held remote, as well as your seat functions (pre-set positions), lighting controls, and call button.

In front of you is the big IFE screen, with additional storage spaces on the sides if need be, as well as a hook to hang small items.

After settling down, I requested for slippers, socks, and set up my headphones with their baby shower caps.

I also asked for the amenity kit which is now in a classy beige color – Penhaligon items (facial mist, lip balm, and lotion) as it always is. The only that has changed is the card now allows you to redeem what they call a “fragrance profiling experience” at any of their store instead of a shower gel. like before. Never seen any reviews of what that is so I’ll try to redeem the experience one day!

Pre-departure drinks were offered, and of course I took champagne, but I only remembered to take a pic after I’ve drank most of it.

Food & Beverage

This long flight will cover Supper and Breakfast, with Delectables available anytime in between. I actually decided to have Lobster Thermidor on Book The Cook for both sessions because nothing else looked enticing enough for me, and seriously how often do I eat lobster on the ground. But the full menus are appended for your reference.

Full Inflight Menus

Full Inflight Beverages

Supper

Lobster for the win but in case you are interested in what the other BTC options are:

More champagne and warm nuts were served rather soon after take off as I gather most people would prefer to finish the meal service and head to bed thereafter.

Bread basket came by soon after (I managed to resist!). Food came in sequence of course, with first the in-flight appetizer (Hot Smoked Salmon Salad), then my Lobster Thermidor, followed by dessert (Namelaka Chocolate Cake) and coffee thereafter. I am constantly grateful at how I can have a freshly made Illy coffee in an airplane. Everything was great this meal!

Delectables

I tried to get some rest after this, trying to get myself sleepy on Krisworld, and surprisingly managed to get maybe 3 hours before I woke up again, and then I got hungry. So I plucked up enough courage to ask for the Noodle Soup kosong – no noodles heh. The kind crew did not give me strange looks and even suggested I double dip on the ingredients and so I ended up with this bowl of fishballs, minced chicken, leafy greens, and mushrooms soup – and it was delicious!

Breakfast

Lobster again but in case you are interested in what the other BTC options are of course:

Breakfast was served with a choice of bread (this time I took a corner of the croissant), fruits, yoghurt, and my lobster.

Lavatories

The lavatories were not an issue – there was almost no wait at most times and if so, a short one. It is as usual quite cosy but functional with amenity kits kept in a drawer for your taking, and equipped wwth Penhaligon’s face mist, lotion, and eau de toilette. They were kept clean at all times which is greatly appreciated.

In-flight Entertainment

I never remember to take pics of the IFE screen selection so my apologies for that but as always Krisworld offers a plethora of movies, TVshows, etc etc that will surely be able to entertain for hours on end. The good thing on the A380 J is that the screen is touch screen so its really good for people who find it easier to toggle on screen versus the wired remote control.

Service –

Service was SQ-great on this flight with smiley politeness, prompt efficiency, and proactive gestures.

In Summary,

Singapore Airline is STILL a great way to fly in my opinion!
