[Hotel Review] Marriott London Park Lane

After much researching for places to stay in London, I landed on this property because the rooms look really nice, it has an Executive Lounge, located at a metro station plus Big Bus Tours stop is just around the corner.

Address – 140 Park Lane, London, England, United Kingdom, W1K 7AA. Website.

Contact – Tel: +44 20-7493-7000. Email: mhrs.lonpl.ays@marriotthotels.com.

Location – The location of the hotel turned out to be absolutely fantastic – not just because of the above-mentioned but also the fact that you have Oxford Street right around the corner which is a hopping street that spans 3 metro stations and apparently 3km long, with interesting branch off alleys along the way. If you must know, a Big Bus Tour stop is 5mins walk away, and Gail’s Bakery which bakes up one of the nicest scones I’ve tried in London is 8mins off (not enough to burn off one scone I’m very sure). But do note that the property is not sheltered to anything.

Price – 470GBP++ per night booked under the Member Rate Prepay Non-refundable Non-changeable rate which was rather expensive but then no hotels in London is cheap. This is where I always thank my lucky stars for elite status as I can be completely assured at getting breakfast (and dinner if there is a Club Lounge) even by booking a base room.

Pre-Arrival – I received an email from the hotel about 4 days prior with some generic info attaching a guest preference form to complete. I sent over the completed form, and enquired about early check in as my flight was landing at 05:55 and I was slightly concerned about being grumpy tired and unrested, and no room. I was given the standard reply that it cannot be guaranteed and advised that I should book the night prior if I would like to have assurance that a room will be ready upon arrival.

Getting There – After much consideration I arranged for a hotel pick up at a cost of $120GBP++ which I agree is completely extravagant but I figured I would be so tired after the redeye, plus I was hedging my bets that perhaps the property will be more receptive to giving me my room at 7:30am if I arrive on hotel-arranged transport. The polite chauffeur was looking annoyed when I spotted him in the arrival hall as the luggage carousel took its own sweet time to push stuff out, but it quickly dissolved into friendly banter once we started chatting. He was super nice, good driving skills, and got me to the hotel in 1hour 15mins thereabouts, including a slight delay due to a slight jam exiting the airport.

Check In – I rolled up to the driveway of the hotel at 7:30am and the staff quickly assisted me with my luggage while ushering me to head up flight of stairs for check in. The hotel lobby is not too bad at first glance!

Check in itself happens one up a flight of stairs, and I was actually surprised that it’s a sit-down affair as it’s not a common sight at Marriotts but I was certainly not complaining! Melissa was completely welcoming and I was informed that my room is ready – YAYYYYY.

I was also informed that I had been upgraded to a Superior Room which is the same size as the Deluxe but comes with a view. Was hoping for a Suite but at this time of the day, I’m not one to be picky as long as they give me a room. Melissa also offered a tour of the Executive Lounge and for me to partake in breakfast while they send the luggage to my room – small gestures like these after a long flight rock.

Room – My Superior room (28Sq), Room 423, felt a lot tighter at one glance. Not sure if its because of the layout but I was glad that I was solo as the space would be a little tight for 2pax I feel.

The door opens up to a small hallway with a small tabletop for your barangs, with the min bar and wardrobe to the right – equipped with the usual stuff of hangers, bathrobes, slippers etc.

This leads into the main bedroom area where everything else is. The tight space aside, I actually do love the style of the room, especially when cleanliness is spot on.

The compact space thankfully has everything that one would need – for starters a huge comfy bed (awesome sleep) with two cosy bedside tables. For those who are particular, there are no bedside USB ports but 3-pin powerpoints are available.

Facing this is your TV, console, and a spacious workdesk

The equally compact bathroom is decked out in the classy marble style which I liked – toiletries are Penhaligon’s which smelt really nice but was a tad too dry for me.

In case you are curious, the ‘view’ that I got was this:

Later in the evening, I also later received a cheese platter (as well as multiplies of vanity kits) – and I recalled that I had mentioned these in my pre-arrival form (I had written that I liked cheeses and would need extras of vanity kits). This attentiveness to details is surprising but very welcomed indeed!

There were turndown service every evening – they’d leave a chocolate at the bedside (like a Ritz), turn on soft music on the Bluetooth speaker at the bedside. Housekeeping also noticed that I had requested for more Penhaligon’s amenities on day 1 and henceforth committed to making sure I’d never run out. Super cute but super nice of them.

Executive Lounge – this is one of the rare lounges I’ve seen which is opened for 24 hours but its great considering the cliente.

The Executive Lounge at our hotel welcomes guests with tufted leather chairs, intimate tables and modern artwork curated by acclaimed art consultant Peter Millard. Black wood paneling complements views of London’s Hyde Park, while complimentary Wi-Fi and innovative cuisine help create an ambiance conducive to relaxation.

I actually really liked the space – the charming set up was such a joy to park myself in each time and I never had issues finding a seat even though the space is not big. Though if you are looking for spots to charge your phone, do note that there is no USB possibilities so bring your 3-pin and find one of the corner or solo seats beside a pillar and charge there instead.

Breakfast (7:00am – 11:00pm)

I looked forward to the first meal of every day as the spread was actually quite high quality: shakshuka, sausages, bacon (done very correctly!) and honeycomb with a delicious coconut yoghurt.

Afternoon Delight (2:00pm – 4:00pm)

This session for me is forgettable and not something I’d want to come back to deliberately. It was similar offerings across the days too – scones, finger sandwiches, tea cakes.

Canapés and Evening Drinks (5:30pm – 7:30pm, drinks until 9:30pm)

This was great throughout my stay with rotating protein choices and the quintessential carbs, alongside greens, cheeses, cold cuts , sides, and plenty other choices more than enough to be dinner. Staff would go table to table to make last calls, and replenishment was never an issue. The Chef in charge had really put thought into providing quality choices and I am super happy about this.

Drinks on offer were red, white, a rather nice sparkling, and an assortment of beers.

Facilities – Swimming Pool (indoor)

I just had to try the indoor swimming pool located on the basement level because there is none in sunny Singapore – and it was fantastic! The water was not heated to be warm but just a nice enough temperature for a swim. The pool is gorgeous with the illuminating lights, flanked by a few sun beds along the sides.

There is also a shower and a steam room located beside the pool – and a headsup that the steam room is definitely one of the hottest I’ve been to.

Facilities – Fitness Centre

This is also located in the basement on another side of the floor – decently equipped but it is sorely missing the rowing machine which is listed on their website. Boo.

Service – Service was exemplary from start to finish – every single staff I met made me feel so welcomed. Their efficiency and smiley politeness shone through every interaction and the entire team deserves a thumb up!

Check Out – seamlessly done at the front desk and happy to be able to say bye to Melissa in person before I left. I found myself feeling sad to be leaving the property for St Pancras Renaissance but made a mental note to recommend this property should anyone need an accommodation recommendation for London.

In summary,

an excellent choice for the city. Even without Lounge access, the other outstanding factors would be a strong enough push to pick this property. Highly recommended 🙂
