[Trip Planning] Qatar Quest 2025

Grabbed from official site

I think this journey started when I was thinking about making it my KPI to try at least one aspirational airline product every year. So what better way than to start with a Qsuites adventure!

Qsuites is one of those things that really get stuck in the head of miles/points chasers. And why not since it established its “First In Business” reputation since 2017. Having privacy doors was unprecedented back then, and the product blew its competition out of the waters. Since then, airlines have been trying to play catch up and coming up with its own sliding door version in business.

But Qsuites kept its A-game, even announcing a Qsuite 2.0 in 2024.

I know I’m also playing catch up in terms of actually flying the product but hey better late than never! There were a few things I had in my head while attempting to book the flights:

  • I knew I needed to check off all the QR lounges which I’ve read so much about, so booking class would also be important since QR does not grant lounge access to Business Lite passengers (something I hope other airlines DO NOT follow Boo).
  • Since I’m transiting through Doha, might as well visit the city proper rather than just a layover.
  • Destination does not matter as much as the journey (haha) even if it means a crazy layover.

BOOKING THE FLIGHT

The QR website was showing crazy prices for a return trip from Singapore to Doha so I started exploring multi city itenaries including Copenhagen, Brussels, UK etc. The thing about booking a multi-city itenary on the QR website is that the final price is not shown until you select your entire itenary’s flights, and even then the class of the booking is not indicated anywhere so there was probably too much checking and rechecking. I eventually landed on this:

The good news is the SIN-DOH sector will be on Qsuites so yay. The DOH- ZRH is on their A350-900 which is the older but still lie-flat ones. Perhaps I will sleep more since its not Qsuites? Hah.

There was also a shorter layover option between SIN-DOH and DOH-ZRH but I wanted more time to stalk the highly-raved QR lounges in Doha hence the choice. This means that I was not eligible to enjoy a complimentary hotel stay offered by Qatar Airways Holidays but ah wells.

PRICE

I paid $3.5k thereabouts (bye bye retirement fund) – but only because I wanted to check off the QR lounges on my way out so I had to book Business Classic. On my way back, Business Lite would be fine for me as I’ll just head to the Qatar Airways Gold Lounge using my OWS.

Also have to point out that while QR943 is not the most ideal timing for visiting the QR Lounge in Changi Airport since only breakfast food is offered, there were several QR ads I saw encouraging selecting QR943 for a cheaper fare. Can’t be sure that’s actually true but if so, that’s certainly one way to book stuff.

For those who are curious, the difference between Lite and Classic was SGD500. Was it worth being able to check out 3x QR lounges? Absolutely!

FLIGHTS

My Singapore sectors is the crown jewel of this trip – Qsuites on the Boeing 777-300ER. I am brimming with excitement even looking at the pics! Also excited to see if I will get caviar after all.

The flights between DOH and ZRH will be Non Qsuites on the A350-900 but hey still lie flat and still J!

AIRPORT LOUNGES

Qatar Airways Premium Lounge Singapore (website)

This is one of the OW die-die-must-try spot in Changi Airport and with multiple data points about entry and dining restrictions for non QR premium passengers, so I am glad I will be able to check this out with no issues with my QR ticket.

Al Maha Arrival Lounge (website)

This lounge is airside and only accessible to passengers leaving the airport ie you cant access this lounge if you are only transiting in DOH airside. It is part of the fast track immigration facility offered to Qatar premium cabin passengers so I’ll take advantage of this to freshen up and have a drink before heading out for my DOHA tour.

Assuming I zip through my 2-hr DOHA city tour, I will come back to explore the Al Mourjan Lounges before my red eye out to ZRH. They both offer the same dining menu (available online here) with the difference being location and age.

The Al Mourjan Business Lounge – South (website) near Concourse A where the famous Lamp Bear is located, is the OG of QR’s business lounges in DOH. Must go!

Al Mourjan The Garden – located in the North (website) – near Concourse C and D, E gates is the newer sibling opened in 2023 and Singaporeans will find the Orchard design reminds of Jewel Changi. Not a bad thing!

On my way back, I will be on Business Lite fares so no lounges are included so I’ll either make use of my Priority Pass or OWS status to park myself somewhere.

At Zurich Airport, the Aspire Lounge and the Prime Class Lounge near E Gates look the least sad out of the list.

At Doha, I’ll have access to Qatar Airways Gold Lounge South (Level 1 next to gate A1) / Platinum & Gold Lounge North (Level 2 next to gate C14) using my OWS status – exactly which one will depend on which one is nearer to my gate. Definitely not as exciting but better than nothing I suppose.

Apparently the Platinum & Gold Lounge North is the better choice for OWS as its a shared space for Sapphire and Emerald members so you get ala carte dining. Yay.

HOTELS

Zurich Marriott Hotel (website)

I checked out a few Bonvoy options and after a little research, picked Zurich Marriott based on online reviews and the fact that they have refurbished rooms to offer and modern M Club to boot. Yay.

Raffles Doha (website)

I think it was not long ago that I saw a vlog about this property and given that I had gotten my Accor Platinum, I could not pass up the opportunity to spend 2nights at what seems to be the best hotel in Doha (bye bye retirement fund again).
