[Flight Review] Starlux-ury: JX732 Singapore (SIN) – Taipei (TPE) – Economy (A350-900)

Grabbed from official site

Starlux-ry:

  • JX732 SIN to TPE (Economy)
  • Hilton Taipei Sinban
  • GALATIC Lounge
  • JX731 TPE to SIN (Business)

Here I go! Getting the spider-man themed flight was a cute bonus, though I’m not particularly a fan of spidey himself. You’ll see plenty of the theme throughout this review.

Grabbed from official site
  • Flight Timing – Depart SIN 14:00 arrive TPE 18:50
  • Duration – 4hrs and 50mins
  • Aircraft – A350-900
  • Seat – 36G
  • Cost – $265 after some discounts on Trip.com

Boarding – I didn’t have time to visit any lounge prior but no loss anyways since the flight was departing from Terminal 1. Boarding time was 30mins prior which I thought was rather tight but it turned out okay. It was quite refreshing for me to be welcomed by Taiwanese mandarin which I’ve aways thought was so melodious. The cabin was awashed in classy brown and grey colors and looked really pretty!

Seat – Seat 36G was the aisle seat in the middle section, midway mark between the first and last row of the section. The seat still felt new-ish and clean to me, which was a bonus, and had adequate leg space for the 1.6m me. Placed on the seat is a pillow as well as wrapped blanket – shoutout to the very comfy plush feeling blanket!

In front of me is the IFE screen, a USB charging port on the ledge below it, and a little fold out compartment for storage which was able to contain my phone and charging wires which worked very well for easy access. The seat pocket contains the quintessential in-flight literature, and the earphones which must be one of the most uncomfortable ones I’ve ever used – they are way too small to fit nicely on adult ears and keeps falling off. Sound quality itself was perfunctory as well.

I later realized there was another charging port built into one of the two side ledges in front but can be a rather awkward spot to reach if you do not know your neighbour.

We pushed back on time and the screen played the cutest animated safety video ever – some still shots for reference heh.

In-flight Entertainment – after settling in, I was excited to check out the IFE options and discovered indeed that there are many but the selection may not be the newest. Movies, TV shows, and games definitely good enough for a 4.5hr flight though.

In-flight meal – on Starlux flights, even economy passengers are able to pre-select their choice of meals at the 48-hour online check in mark which was a bonus for people like me who maybe is a bit particular about their meals. You’d see the choices under Manage My Booking section and just need to pick whichever appeals to you – I of course picked the Roasted Honey Garlic Chicken Thigh with Mashed Potato.

But if not, the menus are viewable on the IFE during the flight:

Spiderman themed serviettes and a pack of rice crackers were distributed to start:

Then my choice of main arrived alongside the appetizer, dessert, bun and fruits on one tray! The chicken itself was tasty and I was happy to get some vegs for sure. The rest of the stuff were less than desirable for me as it was either carbs or too sweet. The lonely bun was cold too.

This flight did not have their signature blue-hued Cosmo cocktail and instead offered Twilight Mojito instead – a super nice mix of rum, green tea, and orange. It was so nice I had a total of 3 servings throughout the flight. #iamnotadrunkard

Lavatory – as expected, the lavatory was cosy and quite cursory but I did find the branded toilet paper a cute touch. The face mist and lotion was Idun branded which had a nice smell. The space itself was kept decently clean which is always nice when flying in Y.

Service – I experienced friendly and warm service by the mostly youthful crew so no complains here for sure! Despite being in Y, there was no sense of “hurried service” you sometimes get on other airlines in the same cabin class. No over-the-top great service but hey for a 4.5hr in Y, all you need is to get the basics right isn’t it.

In Summary,

Happy to check off my inaugural Starlux flight. The pleasant experience made me look forward to my return in Business! 🙂

Starsux Just flew from LAX to TPE Economy Seats are terrible, if person is reclined you can’t get out also seats are not comfortable. Customer service terrible english is not good, i know…. but telling me I cant make my flight cause the connection is late (there flight) so my new flight the next day will be at 2030 when they mean 1230 is a problem…. customer no service only available 930 am to 530 pm.. I was told i would not be reimbursed since my flight the next day was early. Wont fly on this airline again why take the chance. 11 hr layover after 1 day delay

    1. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. It is indeed unusual to see a bad review of the airline but here’s wishing your next flight with another airline will be better 🙂

As a traveler always on the lookout for new experiences, I found this review of Starlux Airlines’ economy class on the A350-900 quite insightful. The flight from Singapore to Taipei seemed to offer a solid overall experience, with comfy seating, decent legroom, and a clean cabin. I was particularly impressed by the pre-selected meal option, something that makes traveling more personalized, especially in economy. The food itself sounds decent, although I would have preferred less sweetness and a warmer bun. The Twilight Mojito cocktail also seems like a fun treat for those looking to unwind. It’s nice to hear that the crew’s service was friendly and warm, and even though the in-flight entertainment wasn’t the latest, it’s good enough for a short flight. For anyone flying Starlux from San Francisco, you might be wondering, “Where is Starlux airline in SFO airport?” – they operate from Terminal 1, so keep that in mind when planning your journey.
