[Hotel Review] Wynn Macau

So I scooted off to a one-nighter adventure in the land of casinos!

Not so long ago, World Elite Mastercard holders received an email with an invitation to sign up for a Wynn Resorts Macau’s loyalty programme’s highest tier membership: Wynn Insider Emerald Tier.

Completely free. So of course the FOMO me attempted to redeem via the Mastercard Travel & Lifestyle website, hoping that it will clear as we found out later that the offer ended prematurely due to overwhelming response.

After days of constantly checking my emails, the confirmation of my submission came in! Yay.

There were however a few snags tied to this freebie – the membership has to be activated with a first stay by end of 2023, and reservations can only be made by calling in (I suppose they want to make it difficult?) so I procrastinated until Sept 2023 to make the call and by then free nights at my desired property, Wynn Palace, were completely sold out, with only Wynn Macau available in earliest Dec 2023.

So no choice, a Dec 1-nighter was booked into this massive property (two towers containing a total of 1,008 rooms and suites!), with the intention to use the balance 5 nights some time in 2024.

Address – MacaoR. Cidade de Sintra, MO Rua Cidade de Sintra NAPE. Website.

Contact – Tel: +853 2888 9966. Email: inquiries@wynnmacau.com.

Location – The property is located in the Macau Island side of thing so the surroundings is not as atas as the newer Taipa area but this is the original casino sprouting spot for sure! Getting around is not an issue in Macau regardless due to the plethora of shuttle buses provided by the hotel chains.

Price – I was booked for a Deluxe Room City View under the “Wynn Insider Courtesy Luxury Stay with Breakfast” at no cost but a dummy search for my stay dates showed MOP 3,200++ for the same inclusions.

Pre-arrival – I got a generic pre-arrivla email 5 days prior:

Getting There – I hopped on the Wynn shuttle bus from Macau International Airport which took me to Wynn Palace and from there, had to change another shuttle bus to Wynn Macau. Total journey took about 30mins with a slight wait at the airport pick up point. It was an easy process – you just need to watch out for the “Hotel Shuttle” signage at the arrival hall, then walk out straight to see a line of marquees, each bearing the respective hotel names, line up and wait for the bus (10-15mins interval). An attendant is also stationed at each spot if need to inquire.

Check In – It was slightly treacherous as the shuttle bus drop off point was at one of the casino entrance and it was supposed to be a straightforward route from there to the hotel lobby. However, walking through the casino with any sort of luggage is not allowed so the guard had to radio someone over to escort me through the route. Once there, the empty lobby at 7pm meant I was attended to immediately.

The process took about 20mins – including explaining of my Wynn Insider Emerald membership benefits and gifting of a every nice welcome gift (more on this later!). I was then escorted to my room which was a pleasant surprise!

Room – My room, 2221, was located in the Wynn Tower (永利楼). To not confuse things, the other tower is called the Encore Tower (万利楼) which houses the Suites, more shops and the somewhat gimmicky Tree of Prosperity

Anyways, so back to my Deluxe Room – very generously sized at 55SqM and is a thankfully very maintained, though dated, space. The space seems to have been turned down upon arrival as slippers were placed by the bedside and there was a small chocolate on the table too. I was happy that it is nicer in real life than on pics!

The doorway opens up to the big bathroom which is the old school marbly type – but very clean! I also liked that they have a smaller TV installed here with its own remote control for those that some TV-ing while doing stuff here.

There is a separate shower and toilet space, double sinks with more than enough countertop space, a stash of amenities, and a tub + bathrobes. Toiletries are Wynn-branded ones and they are quite nice.

The bedroom space is a square of cushy kind bed with bedside tables, a sofa area, a proper work desk + chair, and another 2-seater with coffee table.

The mini bar area is one of the most generous ones I’ve seen and is also where the TV is mounted.

I liked that the lighting and shades controls are easily accessible via the electronic pad by the bedside –

My Emerald welcome gift turned out to be a rather nice accessory box with the membership details as well as a welcome note in Mandarin (not sure if the gentlemen gets a different gift?). Easily one of the nicest I’ve received for sure.

I was feeling tired so opted for room service for dinner – an atas combi of expensive wanton soup + hong kong milk tea for HKD198. Gah.

Breakfast – served at Cafe Esplanada from 7:00am-10:30am, it costs MOP268++ if not included in your room. The space was located in the mall itself and a short walk from the lift lobby, all decked out in a wash of gold and red prints which if not in Macau would probably be a little strange in terms of color choice. It was still quite peaceful at 9am but the crowd picked up around 930am-ish.

The spread was the usual international fare with some local flavors (the siew mai rocks!), featuring a live noodle station alongside the egg station. Coffee is not too bad and served in a mini pot which works for at least 2 cups.

Facilities – these were located on level 4 of the Tower and available for all in-house guests to use, including those from the Encore Tower (and vice versa). Staff escorted me to introduce the facilities so I couldn’t really take pics of these, opps.

The fitness centre was small-ish for a hotel this size (more about the fitness centre here), and the spa in particular (more about the spa here) requires a top up of MOP368++ if an in-house guest wants to use the wet facilities without a spa treatment.

What I did do is to stroll by the rather photogenic pool for a few shots – would imagine this would be quite a popular spot during warmer days.

It is also noteworthy that the hotel has staff distributing vouchers openly for use – you have to bring this the voucher to a desk located in the Encore Tower to register your Wynn Rewards membership and get a MOP50 voucher to be used at their gift shop, as well as a free bubble tea at their bakery spot, Buns & Bubbles.

I got myself an expensive bag of prawn crackers at MOP55 and the drink which was not too bad.

Service – the hotel staff I encountered during this short stay was all courteous and helpful but the casino guys are a different breed.

Check Out – Seamlessly done at 230pm on a weekday.

In summary,

Actually quite a fun whirlwind hop and I’m sure the property is getting more exposure from this Mastercard Travel Lifestyle partnership amongst the newer competition. Looking forward to trying Wynn Palace next year!

Lastly, as Wynn is not under any major loyalty programme, it may be worthwhile checking out Klook to see if they have deals.
