[Lounge Review] Al Mourjan Business Lounge South, Hamed International Airport

This is the OG of the Qatar Business Class Lounges (website) and I was excited to see how different the experience will be from the newer The Garden.

Qatar Quest 2025

  • Location:  duty free plaza of Concourse A, to the left of the giant yellow teddy bear and next to the Harrods Tea Room.
  • Opening hours: 24hours
  • Access: Qatar Airways First Class and Business Class (Elite, Comfort & Classic) and oneworld First Class and Business Class passengers can access this lounge at no additional cost, while Business Class (Lite) and Economy Class passengers throughout the network can purchase lounge access, at the check-in counters, preferred travel agents, or Qatar Airways’ sales offices. The amount paid for lounge access is non-refundable.

My immediate impression was that it is a much darker ambience than The Garden, probably due to the wooden tones and textures. This made it feel very old-school airport lounge, and rightfully so as it opened in 2014, more than 10 years ago!

SEATS

There is again no lack of seats here for sure, with the split level set up doing well to segregate the loungey and the dining crowd. On the lower level where you enter, there are multiple different sections cut out to further split the pax and I don’t quite understand what each section is targeted for so I will just have pictures to show for, including the famous water feature I’ve seen in pics so many times.

There is also a middle island with more seating, including some group set up for groups perhaps?

FOOD & BEVERAGE

There are various F&B stations set up on this floor for simple drinks and bites.

If these don’t suit your fancy, the upstairs section is where the ala carte dining is – and it’s a seriously busy spot at close to 1am when I visited!

There is a proper buffet set up with staff on hand to dish out for you if you so wish.

The ala carte menu is the same as The Garden and I was feeling full but had to eat something so I ordered an off-menu grilled vegetable plate which was decently healthy. I was also consciously saving my stomach for more on-board eating on my way out.

SERVICE

I only encountered service during my dine-in time – the place was so busy that I was not attended to for orders until a long time later. But I do think the staff do try their best so the trick is to be patient, or just nibble off the buffet line.

In Summary,

Personal preference but I prefer The Garden over this just because this has a happier (ie brighter) atmosphere to wait out your flight in, especially if flying economy haha.

Onwards to flight no.3 🙂
