Ah, finally.

This stay was postponed twice (from May, then from Aug) due to tightened COVID measures, especially with restrictions on dining-in making a big impact as it would have meant not being able to access the COLLECTION Lounge at all, which was pretty much the point of me booking a COLLECTION room. The final nail in the coffin was the fact that room reservations told me that club offering alternatives will be delivered to the room only once (but I think you can order as much as you like perhaps)

This property was showing very good rates for some reason despite other GHA properties’ fluctuations. With some GHA properties in Singapore slowly being designated as SHN or SDF facilities, I decided to fill in one of my slots with this instead, despite it not being valid for a separate Local Experience accrual as its considered the same brand as Pan Pacific Hotel & Resorts. My second Service Apartment experience!

I’ve finally pulled the trigger on this one.

Apart from the fact that I work nearby and hence locale is nothing exciting to me, I’ve always consciously avoid properties which does not have a club lounge or accord any elite benefits (alcohol please?). My previous experience in this property was back in 2011. With the recently completed refurbishment and glowing pictures and reviews online, I decided to take advantage of the Amex Plat offer for getting $100 back with every $300 spent at Pan Pacific Group of Hotels, which includes Parkroyal properties. And being able to stack my GHA Black benefits was a bonus for sure!

I finally tried the somewhat legendary Pacific Club!

I’ve actually stayed in the property twice, pre-refurb and then post refurb in 2013. But never tried the Pacific Club experience – despite seeing stunning photos of it on blogs and what nots. It has always been a Club to check off so when Discovery held its sale in March 2019, it was the perfect excuse to plan yet another staycation.

[Hotel Review] Parkroyal on Pickering

So this happened.

The backgound was I saw their facebook publish the 5-day long More Joy with Spring promotion some times early Jan which talks about a guaranteed upgrade to the club room. I jumped and clicked on their advertised link but could not find any mention of the upgrade in the process of booking. As it was a non-refundable booking, I didn’t want to take my chances and commented on their post seeking clarification. But I was stone-walled. Up til the last day of the promotion. I decided to use facebook messager to attempt clarification again, and this time I got a response – saying they would check. The next reply from them was that the hotel “is not participating in the gauranteeed club room upgrade” and apologies for the miscommunication. I wrote back to express my disappointment how it was possible that happened – they apologised again and said they can accord a guaranteed club upgrade for my booking.

So yup. It does not take alot to convince me when a Club Lounge is involved. Yays.
