After the 1hour car ride from Beijing West Railway Station, I stepped into Beijing Capital Airport shortly after 8:00pm for my flight. A little too early but I was glad that I made it!
I figured I’d combine the data about my Comfort Zone massage and Air China Lounge experience as they’d contain very little data separately otherwise.
COMFORT ZONE, BEIJING CAPITAL AIRPORT
The SQ counters weren’t opened yet so I decided to try (and I deserve the pampering I suppose) to go for a free massage at Comfort Zone, courtesy of my Priority Pass. At Bejing Capital Airport, this is the only non-lounge experience available and both landside and airside outlets are included.
I decided to head to the landside one since I couldn’t check in anyways.
This Comfort Zone was located on level 4, which is one floor above the landside departure level – asking the info counter was sufficient to get me there. Once on the level, you will definitely not miss the very green decor with the words “Chinese Tea Foor Massage” in front.
After validating your PP eligibility, you may choose from the above services valued at CNY198 each. I picked foot massage and was ushered to a simple but comfortable enough room for the session. Quality of massage was just alright but better than nothing of course. The masseur did try her best to sell me an extension of the session but I declined.
After I cleared immigration and security, I found another one airside at the Interntaional Departure hall but the sole masseur did not seem interested in accepting a new customer so close to the cut off time of 10:00pm so oh wells.
AIR CHINA BUSINESS CLASS LOUNGE (International departure), Beijing Capital Airport
Immigration and security was quicker than I thought and I was on my way to the lounge to wait out for my SQ flight in no time. Priority Pass would also get you to the First Class version nearer to the other gates but I decided to follow whatever is printed on my boarding pass.
This lounge is also accessible to Star Alliance Gold travelling on Economy, as well as Priority Pass which is pretty much everyone. It was also not as if I had much choice to spend my time as PEK is basically a dead city after 9pm which I cannot understand how being a major hub of China.
Anyways, I headed up by following the all familiar Air China logo:
Now I’ve been to what I thought were pretty sad lounges but this is probably one of the worst – I actually believe a cash fare business class passenger on SQ have reasons to be upset if this is the ground experience. The sad space is actually quite big but should be the case given the audience it accepts – lots and lots of brown / black furniture seating with some seats getting a view of the tarmac while some has views of the terminal. There is a less gloomy looking central pavilion of sorts but the general ambience is the same.
The really sad bit about this place is the F&B offering, or lack of. I have actually never been to a lounge where their definition of hot food is DIY instant noodles and basic hot beverages. Then there are packaged snacks and whole fruits like apples and bananas, alongside a fridge of non-alcoholic drinks. Another fridge nearby holds yoghurts, cut fruit cups prepacked sandwiches.
What I had knowing I’ll at least get decent food onboard later.
In Summary,
not that there were much choices but I suppose a decent spot to rest your feet and get some basic stuff like water replenished?
