This was a rather odd choice for a Bonvoy loyalist but I had already cleared my Titanium renewal, and there weren’t a lot of Accor choices in the city to utilize my Plat status. So this became an excuse to buy an IHG Ambassador membership as the Free Weekend Night priced out for my dates this trip.
My last IHG Diamond / Ambassador tenure was passable so I was hoping this time might be different.

I thought long and hard about choosing this property for 2 nights after RC Nomad because I’ve never tried a Kimpton, and it’s a 5-min walk from RC so I can just roll my luggage over (yays to saving on Uber!). Then came along the Kimpton Annual Sale which was (I think) a solid 30% discount off the rates for my dates and cancellable so I went ahead to book while brosing other options. And then came along the IHG Ambassador 20k points for any 2-night stay so that sealed the deal.

This was supposed to be my Voco staycation but when I found out that their Executive Lounge hours are still samey samey as its previous Hilton life ie lounge is only open in the evening and limited to 1-hour stay per room, I decided to change plans – a $63++ top up will get me afternoon tea and no time limit to stay for evening cocktails. Thanks to my random stroke of good luck, facebook notified me that I won a 2D1N stay at this well located IHG property to be redeemed by May 2019. So stay I did, along with a shopping happy friend in tow who was more than happy to not need to fight the Orchard crowd transit back home after a day of spending money.
I’ve also thought Holiday Inn Express properties are clean quite good choices for travels, because they are always 1) clean 2) reasonably priced 3) free breakfast. The combination of all 3 makes its hard to ignore if the location is good.
You basically know what you are getting when you book a HIE – no surprises.
