So my bid cleared for my return trip from Guangzhou to Singapore. Yayyyyyy.

For those who don’t know, if you are booked on a Singapore Airline flight, you can go to this website to check if your flight is eligible for upgrade and if it is, you’ll be able to choose between sing cash or miles to upgrade your flight per sector. There is also no minimum bid quantum – just throw in what you are willing to part with, click submit and hope for the best. You’d know the results of your bid 48hours prior to departure date / time but remember not to check in for your original flight before getting the results as your bid(s) will be invalidated if you do so. If your bid is unsuccessful, no points or cash will be deducted so its really a no-brainer no-risk shot in the not-so-dark.

But if your bid is, then you grab a glass of champagne, stand up on your chair, and shout ‘SQ BUSINESS CLASS HERE I COME’.

But only if its a successful bid to business. If its a PE, then only do the chair part.

In this case, 25,676 miles x 2 was sacrificed for a 3.5-hour flight back to Singapore. Without any priority immigration and SilverKris Lounge, the experience was honestly kind of muted. But hey, its SQ business class after all so its still going to be good!

By the time of my successful upgrade, there weren’t too many seats to pick from and no more middle seats so it was 15A and 16A for us.

It was almost a full cabin and we were among the last to board. There were Christmas deco since it was still December.

By now, I am too familiar with the J seats in its striking brown and orange tones:

Then you have your storage compartments, IFE controls, and mirror that slides out from beside the storage compartment:

Feet space for those who are similarly 160cm like me!

One for the road!

Since this was a short flight, slippers and socks were on demand instead of placed at your seat.

Lunch was served about 1hour into the flight. I had selected the 十全味美 Shi Quan Wei Mei meal from the in-flight menu (there was no Book The Cook on this flight). It turned out to be a really good choice!

The table was laid and we were served the side dish and cold appetiser together:

Spicy garlic hot bean pickled cabbage + Eel and Salted Egg Roll with Spicy Asparagus Mushroom Salad

Then came the main course – it was delicious!

Red Bean Curd Braised Pork Ribs with Chinese broccoli and pumpkin rice

Finally, the surprisingly nice dessert which I finished:

Creamy roasted Walnut Soup with Pearl Sago

I spent the rest of the short flight watching brainless stuff on IFE and we arrived on time in Singapore.

Service throughout the flight was great despite it being almost a full flight. Business class on SQ is never bad.

Final thoughts….

This flight marks the last of my 2019 trip. Saying this was a good year is an understatement – clocking a total of 11 trips, 8 staycations, AND 8 daycations was an awesome experience (not so awesome for my bank balance)!

And this is excluding the day stays I did for my Hilton Honors Diamond challenge.

This was also a good year for hotel statuses – I received my Marriott Platinum Elite, Hilton Diamond, and GHA Black all at almost the same time. I’ll be a sad sad traveller when Feb 2021 rolls around.

Looking forward to an exciting 2020!
