[Hotel Review] Courtyard Singapore Novena

Grabbed from official site

This staycay has been re-scheduled so many times til I’m not really sure where my rate came about or how long it’s been. Nonetheless, when I heard that this property is finally (!) re-opening for leisure stays, I felt like it was time to get this over while the Double Elite Nights promotion was still going on. Plus, the property promised to honor my rate when I re-book with them.

Address – 99 Irrawaddy Road, Singapore 329568. Website.

Contact – Tel: +65 62500303. Email: contact.courtyardsg@marriott.com / cy.sincy.contact@courtyard.com.

Price – $152.60++ = $186nett booked for a Guest Room under the Members Exclusive Promotion at that time which I thought was a decent deal even though there is no club lounge in the property. The hotel swiftly honored the price for my re-booking, and I found a decent rate of $172++ = $202nett for the second night which I booked and requested to link without any issues. Elites also get:

  • Complimentary breakfast
  • 2x drinks with light snacks daily between 5-7pm at Sky22.
  • Complimentary parking for guests in the Premier Room category – one-time exit valid for 24hours, one coupon per day.

Pre-arrival – the team was very patient with my multiple queries over email and also able to confirm that I have been upgraded to a King Premier Room, their highest category accommodation. Its useful to note that all rooms at this property are of the same size, with the difference being floors and view (Premier rooms get a ‘skyline’ view).

Getting There – I arrived on a grab to the hotel’s drop off point and was assisted with my luggage and lift buttons because I was carrying so many things from Hotel Jen’s stay (I blame you, Whole Scoops). The street level lobby is just a reception area and actual check in happens on the 22nd floor.

Check In – I was warmly welcomed by Catherine at the front and she said they’ve been expecting me which is always a nice touch. My linked bookings for a total of 2 nights was confirmed, assured I didn’t need to change rooms. My late check out of 4pm was also confirmed.

I was given a welcome letter explaining my elite benefits and hotel info sheet.

Elites also get a choice of welcome gift per booking – there were 500 points, sparkling water, cheese platter etc but I eventually picked a $13 dining credit which I figured will give me more flexibility. And because mine was 2 separate bookings, I get to have 2x (can be used together on the same day if you prefer but the first $13 cannot be rolled over to the second night).

Room – Premier King, Skyline view (22SqM), 3007, was really nice! The space was really big enough for 1pax to be honest – I don’t mind as long as the room is clean (and it is indeed spotless which I appreciate very much for a property just out from their SHN contract).

The door opens up to a square layout, with the bedroom section straight ahead. This space contains a huge king bed with tiny bedside tables and lighting controls.

Beside the bed is a cosy wardrobe equipped with the usual bathrobes, slippers, and safe.

Right opposite the bed is a non-swivel TV, the mini bar, and extra luggage space. I was so happy to see a Nespresso after coming from Hotel Jen! Bottled water is also placed here, with 2 more bottles in the bathroom.

The property has also chosen a round table + chair of sorts instead of a proper work desk (but with a view), which felt a little strange. If this is not your thing, you can work off a (lower) ledge right beside the mini bar.

The bathroom is very decent with sliding doors for privacy. The single sink offers sufficient countertop space, the shower space offering good water pressure, and toilet is fine. Toiletries were Nirvae branded, which does what it does.

The “skyline view” mentioned in the room type does not kid – it was actual quite nice!

Sky22 (menu) this is the property’s main restaurant located on the same 22nd floor as Urbana rooftop bar is currently closed. Though not large, it enjoys plenty of natural sunlight from the glass windows and a view of the surrounding neighbourhood. Service is a little unpolished but they do try their best.

Elite Drinks + Light Snacks (5:00 – 7:00pm) – available for Platinum and above members, the timing is split into 5-6pm and 6-7pm but my experience is that they are not very strict if its non-peak. It is 2x drinks and a choice of 2 snacks per room – which was plenty enough for me. Menu was quite extensive with plenty of protein or carb choices.

Across the 2 evenings, I tried the Beef & Chicken Satay (okay), Spicy Chicken wings (excellent + huge portion!), Breaded Battered Fish (quite nice), and Mushroom Cheeseburger Sliders (which is actually vegan so there is only only cheese and mushrooms – take note!). Whatever you do, DO NOT order the dim sum – they came from a frozen packaging and were bland and doughy. Good on the team for allowing to order a replacement after giving feedback. My choices of drinks both nights were the Chardonnay and Shiraz which were decent enough for me. My 2x $13 dining credit bought me a 3rd glass both evenings after stacking with Bonvoy’s 20% discount as well – yays!

Sky22 – Breakfast (6:30am – 10:00am) – again, this timing is supposed to be split into hourly slots but my I had no problems getting seated in between timings (weekends could be a different thing though). Menu is a ala carte buffet order so feel free to go crazy. Across two mornings, I tried the smoked salmon (decent), bircher muesli (good!), cold cut (not nice) and eggs done over easy (passable) . Coffee was no good though.

Facilities – The Pool and Fitness Centre are located on level 33 and only opened for limited hours, 7am- 12pm and 5pm-8:30pm (closed between 12pm and 5pm) – your key card won’t unlock access to the floor during closure hours. For a non-swimmer like me, I actually find the pool very nice! It overlooks the skyline with an infinity design and probably too suitable for taking those IG pics.

The Fitness Centre is compact and basic – treadmills, runners, and weights can also work. But the view is great too!

Service – Pleasant enough for short stay. At the end of my first evening, a little note with 2 granolo bars and a can of chrysanthemum tea. So cute. Also received excellent Larenz and Edwin at Sky22 who were both stellar

Check Out – Painlessly completed at 1pm+ on a weekday.

In Summary,

I was really glad I stayed a second night to fully enjoy the property. While it is somewhat expectedly a Courtyard experience, I have no complaints but I would think the stay would have been quite muted if its room-only without any elite benefits.
